Bike Week panel picks on tap

By JOHN KOZIOL

Staff Writer

LACONIA — Appointments to several municipal agencies, including the new Motorcycle Week Advisory Committee, are on the City Council’s agenda for this evening.

The council meets at 7:30 p.m. in Room 200A at City Hall and will first hear presentations from Executive Councilor Ray Burton and David Heynes of the state Department of Revenue Administration.

Heynes is scheduled to update the council on the certification of the Laconia Assessing Department.

In other business, the council will consider appointing John T. Lahey to the Planning Board and Peter Mason to the Zoning Board of Adjustment as an alternate.

Appointments are also expected to be made to the Motorcycle Week Advisory Committee.

The committee is charged with looking at the rally and its impact on the city’s public relations and infrastructure to determine whether it is in the city’s best interest to assume responsibility for the event, and to see whether the length of the rally should be shortened from its current nine days.

Also, the committee is to study how to create a better working relationship with businesses involved with Bike Week, and to identify how to cover costs of the rally incurred by city, county and state agencies.

Thirteen citizens have submitted their names for consideration to the committee, which will consist of six citizens appointed by wards and one at-large member.
