Lack of help forces author to scrap planBy

LACONIA — Saying he couldn’t find any partners
willing to help with the legwork, Ward 3 Councilor
Fred Toll on Monday asked, at least for this year, to
scrub plans to generate revenue through the sale of
official City of Laconia Bike Week pins and T-shirts.
The City Council agreed.
Despite several articles in local newspapers about
his proposal to sell the items, which would bear the
municipal logo on them, and to split sales proceeds
with local non-profits, Toll told the council’s
Finance Committee that because none of the groups had
contacted him, he was convinced that the idea was
"dead in the water."
Toll said it was unlikely that he could sell the
commemorative T-shirts and pins by himself.
A volunteer sales force was required, he said, and
may be available in the future.
Ward 1 Councilor Paul Bordeau noted that there was
"not a whole lot of return" on the sale of Bike Week
memorabilia as even the event’s promoter, the Laconia
Motorcycle Rally and Race Week Association, reported
only modest sales of pins and T-shirts last year.
The City Council later voted unanimously to remove
the Bike Week revenue proposal from the Finance
Committee’s agenda.
