PSC to get $500k for
meteorology program
PLYMOUTH — U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg will be at Plymouth
State College on Tuesday to announce $500,000 in
funding for expansion of the Plymouth State
Meteorology program.
Gregg will be joined by Plymouth State Vice
President for Institutional Advancement Retha Lindsey
Fielding, Professor James Koermer, director of the
meteorology program, and Professor Robert Talbot,
director of the UNH Atmospheric Investigations,
Regional Modeling, Analysis and Prediction project (AIRMAP).
The 4:15 p.m. conference will be held in room 306
of the Boyd Hall Science Center.
The PSC program is a leader in undergraduate
research in meteorology in the United States, and
collaborates with UNH and the Mount Washington
Observatory. The increased funding will provide state
of the art equipment and technology for the program.
During the past five years, Gregg has enabled funds
for significant development of the PSC meteorology
program.
The Boyd Science Center, which will be dedicated at
a public ceremony Sept. 20, is the result of a $16
million renovation and expansion of the college’s
1960s era science facility.
Funding for the building project was part of the
USNH/state of New Hampshire Knowledge Economy
Education Plan (KEEP) partnership. As a North Country
resource, the Boyd Science Center is a locus for
information and experimentation, and a gathering place
to see science in action.
