MEREDITH — Police said a man was killed instantly when he was thrown from his vehicle on Route 3 near Ippolito’s Furniture around 8 p.m. on Friday.

Police said the man, whose name is being withheld pending the notification of family members, apparently lost control of his sports utility vehicle as it was traveling south of Route 3.

Meredith Police Lt. Kevin Morrow, who was in charge at the accident scene, said the man, who was the brother of a Meredith firefighter, was apparently ejected from the vehicle.

The vehicle ripped down several guard rails then went down over an embankment across from the entrance to the furniture. It land about 25 feet off the road.

Kim Fallon of the Medical Examiner’s Office was called to the scene. Lt. Morrow said the victim was pronounced dead at the site.

The Belknap County Attorney’s Office was also called to the scene.

Others responding to the fatal accident were the Meredith Fire Department and Stewart’s Ambulance.

Police re-routed traffic through the parking lot of the furniture store until the scene was cleared.

It was the second fatal accident on Friday to which Lt. Morrow responded. Earlier in the day he assisted at a fatal accident on Route 132 in New Hampton which claimed the life of Brigid Kilfoyle, 29, of Thornton
